Sinner wins fourth Grand Slam Title at Wimbledon

HEAD tennis ambassador Jannik Sinner has strengthened his position as the best tennis player in the world. The 23-year-old Italian on Sunday claimed his fourth major title, and his first on grass, by winning the Wimbledon men’s singles in London.

Sinner has topped the ATP rankings since early October 2024, and he is recognised as the king of hard courts. But until now, he had yet to win a major on grass or clay – his three Grand Slam victories had all come on hard, as had all but two of his 19 tour-level titles. Now his victory over Carlos Alcaraz on the grass of Wimbledon leaves no doubt that the big-hitting Italian is the undisputed best in his sport.

Sinner admitted that the incentive to win on a surface other than hard courts had grown for him. “Of course you aim to win tournaments you haven't won, different surfaces where you haven’t won,” he said in London, “but at the same time, I try to understand what kind of player I am on this surface, what kind of player I am on clay. Seeing last year how I played on clay, and comparing it with this year, I believe I have improved as a player. Hopefully that's the same thing with grass – I believe I'm a better tennis player on grass.”

In an impressive fortnight, Sinner eased through the first three rounds, but then survived an injury scare in the fourth, when his opponent retired while Sinner was dealing with an elbow problem. But the injury proved manageable, and Sinner beat HEAD’s legendary tennis ambassador Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, before winning the final.

He thereby becomes the first Italian player – male or female – to win a Wimbledon singles title. Another Italian HEAD ambassador Matteo Berrettini reached the final in 2021, the only Italian men’s finalist in London in tennis’s open era until Sinner.

“We always had great confidence in Jannik, but I don’t think any of us knew just how good he would prove to be,” said Ottmar Barbian, executive vice-president of HEAD’s racquet sports division. “He has a phenomenal work ethic, tremendous focus, and is a pleasure to work with. At HEAD, we strive to produce the best frames in tennis, and we can also say we definitely have the best player in tennis!”

Remarkably, Sinner has played just five tournaments this year, winning two (the Australian Open and Wimbledon), and reaching the finals in Rome and Paris.

Sinner, who comes from San Candido in the German-speaking area of northern Italy and spoke German at home during his childhood, led a HEAD team at Wimbledon that posted impressive results. Three of the four men’s semi-finalists were HEAD players (Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Taylor Fritz), Flavio Cobolli reached the quarter-finals, and Liudmilla Samsonova was a quarter-finalist in the women’s singles.
